Ayer fui con mi clase del colegio a visitar un santuario de animales que está a las afueras de la ciudad. Un santuario es un lugar muy especial donde viven animales que han sido rescatados de situaciones difíciles o que no tenían un hogar seguro. Estaba muy emocionado porque me encantan los animales y quería conocer sus historias. Al llegar, una guía llamada Lucía nos recibió en la entrada principal.

Lucía nos explicó que en el santuario los animales no están para ser exhibidos como en un zoo, sino para ser cuidados y respetados. Lo primero que vimos fue el área de los burros y los caballos. Muchos de ellos eran viejos y antes tenían que trabajar cargando cosas pesadas. Ahora viven tranquilos en campos grandes con mucha hierba verde. Aprendí que los burros son animales muy inteligentes y cariñosos si los tratas con suavidad.

Después visitamos la zona de las aves. Había gallinas, patos y pavos reales que corrían libres por el recinto. Lucía nos contó que muchas de estas aves venían de granjas donde vivían en jaulas muy pequeñas. Fue muy bonito verlas estirar las alas y buscar comida en el suelo. Me di cuenta de que todos los seres vivos necesitan espacio y libertad para ser felices y estar sanos.

En el santuario también viven algunos animales salvajes que no pueden volver a la naturaleza porque están heridos. Vimos a un zorro que tenía una pata lastimada y a un búho que no podía volar bien. Los veterinarios del centro los cuidan todos los días y les dan la medicina que necesitan. Aunque no podemos tocarlos, es importante saber que están en un lugar seguro donde nadie les hará daño.

Aprendí mucho sobre la empatía y el respeto hacia los animales. Lucía nos enseñó que cada animal tiene su propia personalidad y sus propios sentimientos. Algunos son más tímidos y otros más curiosos. Debemos observar su lenguaje corporal para saber si están cómodos o si prefieren estar solos. Por ejemplo, si un perro mueve la cola está contento, pero si un gato eriza el pelo es que tiene miedo.

Una de las partes más interesantes fue el huerto ecológico del santuario. Allí cultivan comida para los animales y también para las personas que trabajan allí. Aprendimos que podemos ayudar a los animales protegiendo sus hábitats naturales. Si no tiramos basura al campo y cuidamos los bosques, muchos animales podrán vivir felices en libertad sin necesidad de ser rescatados.

Durante la visita, ayudamos a preparar la comida para los animales más pequeños. Cortamos manzanas y zanahorias para los conejos y las cabras. Fue muy divertido ver cómo comían con tantas ganas. Una cabra pequeña se acercó a mí y me lamió la mano. Su lengua era un poco áspera pero fue una sensación muy agradable. Sentí una conexión especial con ella en ese momento.

Lucía nos habló sobre el trabajo de los voluntarios. Los voluntarios son personas que vienen a ayudar sin recibir dinero a cambio, solo porque aman a los animales.
