A 658-word C2 Spanish article contrasts a 2014 video-chat experiment with current claims about generative AI. It explains the evidence gap identified by UNICEF and the human-centred safeguards proposed by UNESCO.

Contingency
contingencia
contingency
Dependence between an action and the response that follows it.
A key concept in research on interactive learning.
To equate
equiparar
to equate
To treat two different things as equivalent.
Useful for identifying a false comparison.
To unravel
desentrañar
to unravel
To understand something complex by examining it carefully.

Grammar in context
Patterns from the text worth noticing after reading.
it was not the screen alone that made the difference
The cleft structure isolates and contrasts the element under discussion.
Useful for correcting an overly simple explanation.
Concessive «aunque» with the subjunctive
Aunque el sistema produzca una réplica coherente
although the system may produce a coherent reply
The subjunctive presents the concession without treating it as sufficient proof.
Useful for acknowledging a point while limiting its force.
Consequence with «de ahí que»
de ahí que resulte imprudente
hence it is unwise
«De ahí que» introduces a consequence and is followed by the subjunctive.
Useful for linking evidence to a cautious conclusion.
Proportional comparison with «cuanto más..., mayor...»
the more plausible the automatic reply seems, the greater the attention should be
The paired structure shows that one degree rises together with another.
Useful for expressing proportional relationships.
