En España, hay muchos platos típicos. La paella es muy famosa. La paella valenciana tiene arroz, pollo, conejo y verduras. Hay también paella de marisco con gambas y calamares. El jamón ibérico es otro plato importante. Es un jamón curado de cerdo ibérico. El tortilla española es una tortilla de patatas con huevos y cebolla. Es muy popular en todos los bares y restaurantes de España.
Las tapas son pequeñas porciones de comida que se sirven con bebidas. Es una tradición española muy importante. Hay muchos tipos de tapas: aceitunas, queso, jamón, albóndigas, calamares y más. Los españoles van de tapas con amigos los fines de semana. Es una actividad social muy agradable. En algunas ciudades como Granada, las tapas son gratis con cada bebida.
Cada región de España tiene su propia cocina. En el norte, la comida es más fuerte con más carne y pescado. En el País Vasco, los pintxos son similares a las tapas pero más elaborados. Las gazpacho es una sopa fría de tomates que es típica de Andalucía.
Los mercados son muy importantes en la cultura española. El mercado de San Miguel en Madrid es famoso. Cocinar en casa es común, especialmente los fines de semana cuando la familia se reúne para comer juntos.
El aceite de oliva es esencial en la cocina española. España es el mayor productor de aceite de oliva del mundo. Se usa para cocinar y para aderezar ensaladas. El pan también es muy importante. Hay pan fresco en todas las panaderías cada día. El vino español es famoso también. Hay regiones como La Rioja y Ribera del Duero que producen vinos de alta calidad.
Los postres españoles son deliciosos. El flan es un postre típico hecho con huevos, leche y azúcar. La tarta de Santiago es un pastel de almendras típico de Galicia. Los churros con chocolate son populares como desayuno o merienda. En Navidad, es tradicional comer turrón, que es un dulce de almendras y miel.
Comer en España es una experiencia social. La gente pasa mucho tiempo en las comidas, hablando y disfrutando. Los restaurantes están llenos los fines de semana. Es normal tardar dos o tres horas en una comida de domingo con la familia. La comida no es solo para nutrirse, sino también para estar con las personas que quieres.
