España tiene una tradición pictórica muy rica que se extiende desde la Edad Media hasta nuestros días. Los pintores españoles han creado obras que influyeron en todo el mundo.

El arte románico y gótico en España se desarrolló principalmente en iglesias y monasterios. Los frescos en las iglesias catalanas son ejemplos importantes de este periodo. Los artistas pintaban escenas religiosas con colores vivos y dorados.

Durante el Siglo de Oro, el siglo XVII, España produjo algunos de los mejores pintores de la historia. Velázquez es probablemente el más famoso. Trabajó en la corte del rey Felipe IV y pintó retratos de la familia real. Su cuadro Las Meninas es una obra maestra que se encuentra en el Museo del Prado en Madrid. Este cuadro muestra a la infanta Margarita con sus damas de compañía y es un estudio complejo sobre la perspectiva y la luz.

En el siglo XIX, Goya transformó la pintura española. Comenzó pintando escenas de la vida diaria y retratos de la aristocracia. Pero más tarde creó obras más oscuras y críticas, como Los Saturnos y Los Desastres de la Guerra. Goya trabajó para la corte real pero también criticó la sociedad de su tiempo.

El siglo XX trajo nuevos movimientos artísticos. Picasso es sin duda el pintor español más conocido internacionalmente. Nació en Málaga y cofundó el cubismo. Su obra Guernica es un símbolo contra la guerra y la violencia. Este cuadro enorme muestra el bombardeo de la ciudad de Guernica durante la Guerra Civil Española. Picasso también pintó en muchos otros estilos, desde el realismo hasta el surrealismo.

Dalí es otro artista español famoso del siglo XX. Fue un líder del surrealismo y nació en Cataluña. Sus cuadros son oníricos y extraños, con relojes blandos y paisajes desérticos. Dalí también trabajó en cine y diseño, colaborando con directores como Hitchcock.

Miró, también catalán, desarrolló un estilo abstracto y colorido. Sus cuadros usan formas simples y primarias. Joan Miró influyó en el arte abstracto americano y europeo.

Hoy en día, España sigue produciendo artistas importantes. Museos como el Reina Sofía en Madrid, el Guggenheim en Bilbao y el MACBA en Barcelona muestran arte contemporáneo español. La pintura española sigue evolucionando y mezclando tradición con innovación.
