El cómic español se desarrolló especialmente en el siglo XX. En los años 1940 y 1950, las revistas de cómic eran muy populares entre niños y jóvenes. Revistas como Pulgarcito y TBO contenían historias de diferentes géneros: aventuras, humor, terror y ciencia ficción. Estas revistas eran baratas y accesibles, lo que ayudó a popularizar el cómic en España.
Uno de los personajes más famosos del cómic español es Zipi y Zape. Son dos hermanos gemelos traviesos que siempre causan problemas. Sus historias, creadas por Escobar, son cómicas y reflejan la vida infantil. Zipi y Zape aparecieron por primera vez en 1948 y siguen siendo populares hoy en día.
Mortadelo y Filemón es otra serie clásica del cómic español. Creada por Francisco Ibáñez en 1958, trata sobre dos detectives incompetentes que trabajan para una organización secreta.
