En la época romana, España producía estatuas y relieves para decorar edificios públicos. Muchas de estas obras se encontraron en ciudades como Tarragona y Mérida. Los romanos traían sus estilos artísticos, pero también incorporaban elementos locales.

El periodo del barroco fue una época dorada para la escultura española. Estas esculturas de madera policromada representan a Cristo, la Virgen y otros personajes bíblicos con gran detalle.
En el siglo XX, escultores como Pablo Picasso y Julio González revolucionaron el arte. Picasso no solo fue pintor, sino también escultor que experimentó con nuevas formas y materiales. González fue pionero en el uso del hierro forjado en la escultura moderna.
Hoy en día, la escultura contemporánea española es muy diversa. Artistas como Eduardo Chillida y Jorge Oteiza han creado obras abstractas que se pueden ver en museos y espacios públicos de toda España. Chillida es famoso por sus obras en hierro y piedra que exploran el espacio y el vacío.
Las ciudades españolas tienen muchos espacios dedicados a la escultura. Parques, plazas y jardines exhiben obras de artistas modernos y clásicos. En Madrid, el Museo Reina Sofía tiene una importante colección de escultura contemporánea. En Bilbao, el Museo Guggenheim muestra obras internacionales y españolas.
La escultura también está presente en la vida cotidiana. Las fuentes de las plazas, los monumentos a personajes históricos y las estatuas en los parques son parte del paisaje urbano español. Estas obras cuentan historias y conectan a las personas con su historia y cultura.
Los estudiantes de arte en España aprenden tanto técnicas tradicionales como contemporáneas. Las escuelas de bellas artes enseñan talla en madera, modelado en barro, soldadura y muchas otras técnicas. La escultura sigue siendo una forma de expresión artística muy viva en España.
