The narrator and their grandmother prepare their family's meat-free borscht and varenyky with potato and onion.
Для борщу бабуся бере буряк, капусту, картоплю, моркву та цибулю. У нашому борщі немає м'яса. Ми додаємо квасолю.
Я мию овочі. Бабуся ріже їх і кладе в каструлю. Буряк дає борщу темно-червоний колір.
Поки борщ вариться, ми робимо вареники. Для тіста потрібні борошно, вода та сіль. Наша начинка проста: картопля зі смаженою цибулею.
Бабуся розкачує тісто. Я ріжу маленькі кружечки. На кожен кружечок ми кладемо ложку начинки та з'єднуємо краї.
Потім ми кладемо вареники в гарячу воду. Коли вони піднімаються на поверхню, бабуся чекає одну хвилину й виймає їх.
Ми ставимо на стіл борщ, вареники, сметану, хліб і свіжий кріп. Кожна людина сама додає сметану у свою тарілку.
Нарешті вся родина сидить за одним столом. Я люблю цей обід не лише через їжу. Мені подобається готувати разом і слухати родинні історії.
