До цієї традиції належать посуд, обрядові речі, іграшки та кахлі. Вона зародилася у XVIII столітті й досягла розквіту в середині XIX століття.
Вироби виготовляють із місцевої сірої глини та вкривають білою глиною кремової текстури. Після висихання майстер продряпує металевою паличкою контур майбутнього малюнка.
Потім виріб обпалюють і фарбують оксидами металів, щоб отримати традиційні зелений і жовтий кольори. Під час випалу зелений барвник розтікається та створює акварельний ефект, який називають «сльозами».
Основною рисою косівської кераміки є образний орнамент. Її сюжетний мотив може передавати історію, побут, фольклор, вірування й звичаї гуцулів, а також навколишній рослинний і тваринний світ.
Кераміку використовують у побуті, тому вона має і практичне, і художнє значення. Майстри працюють у сімейних та невеликих ремісничих майстернях, а їхня робота є ознакою приналежності до громади.
Кафедра художньої кераміки Косівського коледжу підтримує спадкоємність поколінь майстрів і носіїв традиції. Вона також допомагає зберігати традиційний технологічний цикл, пов'язаний із гончарним кругом, глиною, знаряддями та горном.
Коли ми дивимося на такий виріб, контур і колір не зводяться до однієї розшифровки. Вони нагадують, що ремесло живе не лише у предметі, а й у знаннях, які передають далі.
