Plants need sunlight to grow and make food. Without sunlight plants cannot survive. The sun makes the day warm and pleasant. We enjoy sunny days outside. People go to parks and beaches on sunny days. The sun rises in the morning in the east. It sets in the evening in the west. This happens every day. The sun is important for all life on Earth. It gives energy to our planet. Solar panels can use sunlight to make electricity. Some people use solar power for their homes. The sun has been shining for billions of years. It will continue to shine for many more years. We should not look directly at the sun. It can hurt our eyes. We wear sunglasses to protect our eyes from bright light. Sunscreen protects our skin from the sun. Too much sun can burn our skin. Light travels very fast from the sun to Earth. It takes about eight minutes for light to reach us. The sun is much bigger than Earth. It is a giant ball of hot gas. The sun has gravity that keeps planets in orbit. Earth orbits around the sun once every year. This gives us our seasons. Summer is warm and winter is cold. The sun is the center of our solar system. All planets go around the sun. The sun is essential for life on our planet.
