There are four main seasons in many places. Spring is the season after winter. In spring, the weather gets warmer. Flowers start to grow. Trees get new leaves. Many animals have babies in spring. People spend more time outside. Spring is a time of new beginnings.
Summer is the warmest season. The sun shines for many hours. Days are long and nights are short. People wear light clothes like shorts and t-shirts. Many people go to the beach or swim in pools. Families often take vacations in summer. Children do not go to school during summer holiday.
Autumn is also called fall. In autumn, the weather becomes cooler. Leaves on trees change color. They turn red, orange, and yellow. Then the leaves fall from the trees. Animals prepare for winter. Some birds fly to warmer places. People wear warmer clothes like sweaters and jackets.
Winter is the coldest season. In many places, it snows in winter. The ground is white and cold. Days are short and nights are long. People wear heavy coats, hats, and gloves. Some people enjoy winter sports like skiing and ice skating. Others stay inside where it is warm.
Rain is another type of weather. When it rains, water falls from clouds. People use umbrellas and raincoats to stay dry. Rain is important for plants and animals. It helps crops grow. After rain, the air smells fresh. Sometimes there is a rainbow in the sky.
Wind is moving air. On windy days, leaves and papers blow around. Strong winds can be dangerous. They can break trees and damage buildings. Light winds are pleasant on a hot day. They help cool people down.
Temperature tells us how hot or cold it is. We measure temperature in degrees. When it is hot, people want to drink cold water and stay in the shade. When it is cold, people drink hot drinks and stay inside. Extreme temperatures can be dangerous for health.
People check the weather forecast. A forecast tells us what the weather will be like. This helps people plan their day. If the forecast says rain, people bring an umbrella. If it will be hot, people wear sunscreen. Weather forecasts are on television, radio, and the internet.
Weather is different around the world. Some places are always hot. Others are always cold. Some places have a lot of rain. Others are very dry. The climate is the usual weather pattern in a place. Understanding weather and seasons helps us understand different cultures and environments.
