First, always warm up before playing sports. A warm up prepares your muscles. You should stretch your arms and legs. Do some light running. Jump a little. A good warm up takes about ten minutes. Warm muscles are less likely to get hurt.
Second, wear the right equipment. Different sports need different equipment. Wear a helmet for cycling. Wear knee pads for skating. Wear good shoes for running. Check your equipment before playing. Make sure nothing is broken. Good equipment protects you.
Third, know the rules of the sport. Every sport has rules. Rules help keep everyone safe. Learn the rules before you play. Ask your teacher or coach to explain. Follow the rules during the game. Do not push or hit other players. Fair play is important.
Fourth, listen to your body. If you feel pain, stop playing. Pain is a warning sign. Do not ignore pain. Tell your teacher or coach if you hurt something. Rest when you are tired. Pushing too hard can cause injuries. It is better to rest than to get hurt.
Fifth, drink water when you play sports. Your body needs water when you exercise. Drink water before, during, and after sports. Do not wait until you are thirsty. Thirst means you are already dehydrated. Water keeps your body working well.
Sixth, play on safe surfaces. Check the ground before playing. Look for holes or rocks. A flat surface is best for running. Grass is softer than concrete. Avoid playing on wet or slippery surfaces. Safe surfaces prevent falls and injuries.
Seventh, do not play when you are sick. If you have a fever, stay home. If you have a bad cold, rest. Your body needs energy to get better. Playing sports when sick can make you worse. Wait until you feel well before playing again.
Eighth, be careful with the weather. In hot weather, play in the morning or evening. Wear light clothes and a hat. Use sunscreen to protect your skin. In cold weather, wear warm layers. Protect your hands and feet. Do not play in very bad weather like storms.
Ninth, learn how to fall safely. Sometimes you fall in sports. Learn to roll when you fall. Do not try to catch yourself with straight arms. Roll on your shoulder or back. This protects your bones. Practice falling with a coach.
Tenth, have a first aid kit nearby. Every sports team should have a first aid kit. It should have bandages and ice. It should have medicine for cuts. Know where the first aid kit is. Know how to use basic first aid. This helps when someone gets hurt.
If you do get hurt, tell an adult immediately. Do not hide an injury. Small injuries can become big problems if ignored. See a doctor if the pain is bad.
