My name is Lisa . I am fourteen years old . I am a student at Greenfield School . This year I started learning English in a new class . There is a lot I can tell you about my experience . At the beginning , I can only say a few words . My vocabulary is very small . But my teacher says , Do not worry . You can learn step by step . There are many steps , but each one is possible . The first topic in our book is about articles . We learn a , an , and the . At first it is hard . In my language , there are no articles . But after a week , I can use them in simple sentences . I can say , There is a book on the desk . I can say , The cat is on the chair . It feels good . Next , we study subject pronouns . I , you , he , she , it , we , they . My teacher puts them on the board . She can say each pronoun clearly . We can repeat after her . Then we study possessive adjectives : my , your , his , her , its , our , their . There is a helpful chart in my notebook . After pronouns , we study there is and there are . This is easier . There is a table . There are chairs . There are windows on the left wall . I can see these patterns everywhere . There is one in almost every sentence I read . Then we learn can and cannot . My favourite lesson . I can swim , but I cannot play the piano . My friend can draw , but she cannot speak Spanish . There are many things each person can do . It is interesting to talk about abilities . Imperatives are next . Open your book . Write your name . Do not be late . These are the sentences my teacher says every day . Now I can use them too . I can give simple instructions in English . Prepositions of place come after that . In , on , at . My pencil is in my bag . My book is on my desk . I am at school . There is a poster with pictures and prepositions in our classroom . I can look at it when I forget . Now I can put all these things together . There is a cat on the mat . Its fur is soft . It can sleep for many hours . My grandmother's cat is on her sofa . It is a warm , comfortable spot . I can write a short letter to a friend . I can describe my room , my family , my school . There is so much I can say now . At the beginning of the year , I can only say hello . Now I can say much more . My teacher says , Your English is improving every week . I am proud of my progress . There is still a long way to go , but I can see the direction . I can feel the confidence growing . There is a new door open in my life . Its name is English .
