“ My queen , you are beautiful , it is true . But Snow White is a thousand times more beautiful than you . ” The queen goes yellow . Then she goes green . Her heart is full of anger . “ What ? Snow White ? That little girl ? ” she shouts . “ No ! It is not possible ! ” But it is possible . The mirror never lies . And the queen knows it . From that day , the queen hates Snow White . She cannot sleep at night . She thinks about one thing only : “ I must be the most beautiful . Only me ! ” One day , the queen calls for her huntsman . A huntsman is a man who hunts animals in the forest . “ Take Snow White into the forest , ” she says . “ Take her far , far away . I never want to see her again . Do you understand me ? ” “ Yes , my queen , ” says the huntsman . The huntsman understands very well . The queen wants the girl dead . He is afraid of the queen . He cannot say no . The next day , the huntsman leaves the castle with Snow White . They walk to the forest together . “ Where are we going ? ” asks Snow White . “ To the forest , ” says the huntsman . “ Why ? ” The huntsman does not answer . They walk for a long time . The forest is big and dark . There are no houses and no roads . Suddenly the huntsman stops . He takes out his knife . He looks at the girl . His eyes are sad . Now Snow White understands . She is very afraid . “ Oh , please , let me live ! ” she cries . “ I will stay here in the forest . I will never go back to the castle . Never ! ” The girl cries and cries . The huntsman looks at her . She is so pretty and so good . He feels sorry for her . “ Run away , poor child , ” he says . “ I cannot hurt you . Run , and never come back . ” He puts his knife away . And he leaves her alone in the forest . The huntsman goes back to the castle . On the way , he thinks : “ Poor girl . The wild animals will soon eat her . But I did not kill her . ” And now his heart feels lighter . At the castle , the queen is waiting for him . “ And the girl ? ” she asks . “ She is in the forest , far , far away , ” says the huntsman . “ You will never see her again , my queen . ” The queen smiles . She thinks Snow White is dead . “ Good , ” she thinks . “ Now I am the most beautiful again . ” III . The Little House in the Hills Snow White is alone in the forest . Everything around her is dark and strange . She is afraid . She starts to run . She runs over sharp stones and through thorns . Wild animals run past her . But they do not hurt her . In the evening , she cannot go on . Her feet hurt a lot . Then , between the hills , she sees a little house . “ A house ? Here , in the forest ? ” she thinks . She goes to the door and knocks . Nobody answers . The door is not locked . Snow White goes in slowly .
