Lo primero que encuentro son las hormigas. Ellas son muy trabajadoras. Veo una fila larga de hormigas caminando sobre una pared de piedra. Cada hormiga lleva un trocito de hoja o algo de comida. Mi abuelo me dice que las hormigas viven en comunidades muy organizadas. Ellas trabajan juntas para sobrevivir. Es increíble ver cómo un animal tan pequeño puede ser tan fuerte y ordenado.
Cerca de las flores, veo a las abejas. Ellas vuelan de flor en flor recolectando polen. El sonido que hacen es constante. Sé que las abejas son muy importantes para la naturaleza porque ayudan a las plantas a crecer. También hacen miel, que es deliciosa. Mi mamá me dice que no debo molestarlas porque solo pican si se sienten en peligro. Las observo desde una distancia segura.
De repente, una mariposa aterriza en una rosa roja. Tiene alas de color naranja y negro. Es una mariposa monarca. Uso mi lupa para ver los detalles de sus alas. Parecen vidrieras pintadas a mano. Las mariposas son mágicas porque empiezan su vida como pequeñas orugas verdes. Después de un tiempo en un capullo, se transforman en estas criaturas hermosas que vuelan.
En una hoja grande de un árbol, encuentro una mariquita. Es roja con puntos negros. En España, mucha gente dice que las mariquitas traen buena suerte. Son insectos muy útiles para los jardineros porque comen otros bichitos que dañan las plantas. Pongo mi dedo cerca y la mariquita camina sobre mi mano. Sus patas se sienten muy suaves. Después de un momento, abre sus pequeñas alas y vuela.
También veo a un saltamontes verde entre la hierba. Es muy difícil de ver porque su color es igual al de la hierba. Esto se llama camuflaje. El saltamontes tiene patas traseras muy largas y fuertes. De un momento a otro, ¡salta muy lejos! Es impresionante la distancia que puede recorrer de un solo salto. Trato de seguirlo, pero desaparece rápidamente entre las plantas.
En una zona húmeda del jardín, veo una lombriz de tierra. No es un insecto, pero vive con ellos. Las lombrices ayudan a mantener la tierra sana y suave. Mi abuelo dice que son las mejores amigas de las plantas. La lombriz se mueve lentamente hacia abajo para esconderse del sol. A ellas no les gusta la luz directa porque su piel necesita estar húmeda siempre.
A veces encuentro arañas en las esquinas de la terraza. Ellas tejen redes de seda muy finas y resistentes. Uso mi lupa para ver la estructura de la red. Es una obra de arte perfecta. Las arañas esperan pacientemente a que algún insecto caiga en su red para comer.
