This article contains a MovaReader adaptation of Cuentos de la selva, Horacio Quiroga’s 1918 collection of animal tales from the Misiones jungle, retold in simple Spanish in 11 chapters. It keeps six of the eight tales, each complete: La tortuga gigante, Las medias de los flamencos, El loro pelado, La gama ciega, Historia de dos cachorros de coatí y de dos cachorros de hombre and La abeja haragana; La guerra de los yacarés and El Paso del Yabebirí are left out. A turtle carries a sick hunter, flamingos go to a snakes’ ball, a parrot invites a tiger to tea, a blind doe seeks help from a hunter, a coati cub is caught in a trap and a lazy bee is shut out of her hive. Level A2 suits learners who know the past tenses: sentences of about 9 words, the pretérito indefinido and imperfecto, and plenty of dialogue. About 8,000 words.
