We played music on a portable speaker near the fence. Some children danced on the grass while others talked quietly. Lily's dad photographed the group before the games started. The sun warmed our faces during the first hour.
We played three party games that Lily planned with her sister. We laughed when Marco missed the ball during a race. Lily clapped for every winner and shared small prizes from a basket. Nobody felt left out because the rules stayed simple.
At five o'clock we gathered around the long table. Lily's mom carried the cake outside on a wooden tray. We sang loudly and watched Lily blow out every candle. She closed her eyes and wished for a happy year ahead.
After cake we opened presents one by one. Lily thanked everyone and showed each gift to the group. She received books, art supplies, and a blue scarf from her aunt. Her face looked surprised and very happy.
When the party finished, we helped clean the garden. We collected cups and plates from the tables and chairs. Lily's parents thanked us for coming and waved from the door. I walked home and remembered how much fun we shared.
Last Saturday showed how much Lily cared about her friends. She planned every detail and enjoyed every moment. Her birthday party stayed in my memory all week. I already looked forward to next year's celebration.
