Reporter: Was there a story you still remember?
Tom: Once we found a dog under a bridge in heavy rain. A worker brought him in wet and cold. We dried his fur, gave him food, and kept him warm overnight in a quiet room. A girl adopted him three weeks later and sent us a thank-you card.
Reporter: What did the work teach you?
Tom: It taught me patience and care. I spoke with children who learned about responsibility during school visits. I heard sad stories, but I also saw hope every time an animal left with a new family.
Tom left the shelter last month because he moved to another city for work. He said he would visit again when he came back for holidays with his parents. I wrote his words in my school magazine and shared them with our class on Friday afternoon.
The interview showed me how volunteers change lives in quiet ways. Tom fed animals, he drove to the vet, and he helped families choose new pets with open hearts. I thought about joining the shelter team when I turn sixteen next year and have more free time on weekends.
