I . The House in the Wood This is a story from a long time ago . There is a big wood . In the wood there is a little house . It is made of wood and stone . It has a green door and two big windows . In front of the house there is a path . Behind the house there are many tall trees . Three bears live in this house . It is their own house . They live there together . One bear is little . He is very , very little . He is the Little , Small , Wee Bear . One bear is not big and not little . He is the Middle Bear . And one bear is very , very big . He is the Great , Huge Bear . Each bear has his own voice . The Great , Huge Bear has a great , rough , gruff voice . When he speaks , the windows shake . The Middle Bear has a middle voice . It is not loud and it is not quiet . And the Little , Small , Wee Bear has a little , small , wee voice . It is high and thin . Every morning , the three bears eat porridge with milk . It is the food they like best . So each bear has a bowl for his porridge . The Great , Huge Bear has a great bowl . The Middle Bear has a middle bowl . And the Little , Small , Wee Bear has a little bowl . Each bear has a spoon too . The spoons are made of wood . There is a great spoon , a middle spoon and a little spoon . In the kitchen there is a table . By the table there are three chairs . The Great , Huge Bear has a great chair with a hard cushion . He likes hard cushions . The Middle Bear has a middle chair with a soft cushion . He likes soft cushions . And the Little , Small , Wee Bear has a little chair . It is not hard and it is not soft . For him , it is just right . Wooden stairs go up to the top of the house . Up there is the bears ’ bedroom . In the bedroom there are three beds . The Great , Huge Bear has a great bed . He likes to sleep with his head up high . So his bed is very high at the head . The Middle Bear has a middle bed . He likes to sleep with his feet up high . So his bed is very high at the foot . And the Little , Small , Wee Bear has a little bed . It is not high at the head . It is not high at the foot . For him , it is just right . The three bears are good bears . They are a little rough , like all bears . They speak loudly and they walk with big steps . But they have kind hearts . They never hurt anyone . And they love visitors . When somebody comes to their house , they always ask them to stay and eat . “ In this house there is always porridge for a friend , ” says the Great , Huge Bear . “ And a chair , ” says the Middle Bear . “ And a spoon ! ” says the Little , Small , Wee Bear .
