I am Jordan . I play basketball in a community league with friends from my street . Last Saturday our team faced Riverside , and the match felt more intense than our usual games . In the first quarter we moved faster than Riverside on defense . Our captain Mia said our passes were sharper than last month , although our shooting was still weaker than we hoped . Riverside's center was taller than anyone on our bench , so we planned shorter passes than the long throws we tried in practice . At half time the score was closer than we expected . The coach said our energy was higher than in the opening minutes , but our mistakes were more costly than simple misses . He asked for calmer decisions near the basket . After the break our guard Leo played better than he did all season . His shots were more accurate than Riverside's outside attempts , and he ran harder than the tired players on the other team . Mia said Leo looked more confident than he did before summer training . Riverside answered with stronger defense than before . Their blocks were more frequent than ours , and the crowd grew louder than at the start . I felt more nervous than Leo , yet our substitutes were fresher than their tired starters . In the final minutes our teamwork was more united than Riverside's isolated plays . We shared the ball more patiently than in earlier games , and our last free throws were steadier than the rushed shots from the first half . When the whistle blew , we won by four points . The victory was sweeter than our draw last season against the same club . Mia said this performance was more complete than any match we played in autumn . After the game we talked in the changing room . Leo said the gym was hotter than the hall where we train on Thursdays . I said Riverside's fans were more supportive than some crowds we remember from away games . Our coach reminded us that one win is not the biggest achievement of the year . He said consistent practice is more important than a single good night . Still , we left the gym happier than we arrived , and our bus ride home felt shorter than the journey before the match . Sport teaches us that improvement is more visible when we compare today with yesterday . Last season we were slower , noisier in panic , and less patient near the end . This time we were better together than we were alone with doubt .
