The restaurant was opening that evening , and the menus were still in the building . Noor had started in Marketing only that week . Her job was the words on the menus . She was not the person who sent boxes out . The caller did not know that . " We open tonight , " the woman said . " If the menus are late , the tables will have nothing to read . Can you put them in a van now ? " Noor looked at her screen . Marketing could change a sentence . Marketing could not open the loading door . She told the caller she would find the right person , and she went downstairs . In the loading room , Mr . Okonkwo was checking a list . He ran Operations , and Operations moved the boxes . He listened , then shook his head . " I can see the menus , " he said . " I cannot let them go . Finance has not marked the bill as paid . If I send them and the money is not here , the problem becomes mine . " Noor did not argue . She climbed to the next floor . Finance was a quiet room by a window . Ruth looked up from a screen full of numbers . " The restaurant paid this morning , " Ruth said . " I marked it . I also sent a note to Operations . Maybe the note is still unread . Tell Mr . Okonkwo the bill is clear . I will call him too , so he does not have only your word . " Noor went back down . The boxes were already on a cart . Mr . Okonkwo had his phone at his ear , and he was nodding . When he finished , he pointed at the cart . " Ruth says the money is in , " he said . " You can tell your caller the van leaves in a little while . " Noor called the restaurant from the loading room , with the boxes in front of her . The woman on the phone let out a long breath . " Tonight is enough , " she said . Noor walked back to her desk . The words on the next menu were still hers to finish . She wrote Mr . Okonkwo's name and Ruth's name on a card and stuck it to the side of her screen . She did not want to learn that walk a second time in a panic .
