This article contains a MovaReader adaptation of Historia de la vida del Buscón, llamado don Pablos, Francisco de Quevedo’s picaresque novel first printed in 1626, retold in simple Spanish in 14 chapters. Pablos, the son of a thieving barber from Segovia, tells his own story: the starving school of the licenciado Cabra, student pranks in Alcalá, a letter from his hangman uncle, strange companions on the road, a brotherhood of penniless hidalgos in Madrid, prison, a false identity as Don Filipe Tristán, begging and acting in Toledo. Level A2 suits learners who know the past tenses: sentences of about 9 words, the pretérito indefinido and imperfecto, and plenty of dialogue. About 9,000 words.
