This article contains a MovaReader adaptation of El sombrero de tres picos, Pedro Antonio de Alarcón’s comic novella of 1874, retold in simple Spanish in 14 chapters. Around 1805, near a town in Andalusia, the ugly and clever miller Lucas and his beautiful wife Frasquita receive the town’s gentlemen under their vine, and the old Corregidor Don Eugenio, who is in love with Frasquita, plots with his constable Garduña to get the miller out of the house for one night. Level A2 suits learners who know the past tenses: sentences of about 10 words, the pretérito indefinido and imperfecto, and plenty of dialogue with usted. About 8,000 words.
