Arthur loves his quiet and lonely life on the cliff. He believes that his work is extremely important because the bright light of the lighthouse guides ships safely at night. His daily routine is simple but very active.
Every morning, Arthur wakes up at six o'clock. First, he makes a hot cup of tea and feeds Rex. Then, they walk up the long stone spiral stairs to the top tower. Arthur checks the big lamp and cleans the thick glass windows very carefully.
During the day, Arthur does many different chores. He repairs the machinery, paints the wooden walls, and watches the ocean with his binoculars. He enjoys looking at the white seagulls and large waves.
Does Arthur feel lonely on his cliff? No, he does not feel lonely at all. He has a lot of books to read and enjoys playing the flute in the evening. Rex is also a great companion and always stays near him.
Arthur does not have a car, and he does not go to big supermarkets. A boat brings him fresh food, water, and letters once a week. Clara, the boat captain, always chats with Arthur. She often asks: "Do you need any extra blankets?" or "Is everything working well?"
Sometimes, the weather on the sea is terrible. Strong winds blow, and dark storm clouds cover the sky. Does Arthur fear the storms? No, he does not fear them because the lighthouse walls are very strong and safe.
In the evening, Arthur cooks a simple dinner. He and Rex eat together on the kitchen floor. At ten o'clock, Arthur turns on the powerful lighthouse beacon and goes to sleep. His peaceful world is beautiful.
