The market square is at the heart of Millbrook. Vendors set up their stands in long rows on the square every Saturday morning. The old clock tower stands at one corner of the square. People meet at the fountain in the middle to talk and buy fruit.
Our school is on River Road, on the left side as you walk from the square. A tall oak tree grows at the gate of the school yard. Students sit on the steps at the main entrance before lessons begin each morning.
The library is in a brick building on the main street. Newspapers are on a stand at the door. The reading room is at the back of the building. Long wooden tables stand in neat rows in the reading room.
There is a small park on the north side of town. Children play on the swings in the park. A round pond sits in the middle of the park. Ducks swim on the pond every morning. A wooden bench stands at the water edge near the old willow tree.
The post office is at the corner of High Street and Bridge Lane. A red mailbox stands at the entrance. People write addresses on letters in the small room at the front of the building.
The sports center is in the new part of town on the east side. There are tennis courts in front of the building. A small cafe is at the entrance on the ground floor. The swimming pool is in the basement below the sports hall.
The church is on the hill above the town. A narrow path leads up through the trees. There are old stone walls on both sides of the path. A small garden sits at the front of the church.
In the evening, people walk on the path along the riverside. Dogs run on the grass at the edge of the water. Families sit on the benches that line the path. Children eat ice cream at the kiosk in front of the old mill.
I feel lucky to live in Millbrook. Everything is in one place and easy to reach on foot. I know every street, every corner, and every bench in the park. This town is at the center of my world.
