The library is a large building on the main street. The children section is on the ground floor on the left side of the building. Long shelves of books stand in rows in the room. Picture books sit on the lower shelves. Longer novels are on the shelves higher up.
The librarian showed us how to find a book in the catalogue. She pointed to the computers at the desk near the window. You type the title in the search box on the screen. The computer shows you which shelf the book is on and its number.
I found a book about the ocean. It was on the second shelf from the top in the science section at the back of the room. I carried it to the reading area. There were soft chairs and low tables in the reading area. I sat in a chair near the window and opened the book.
My friend Ana sat at the table in the corner. She chose a story about a girl who lived in a city in France. She told me about it later on the walk back to school.
There is also a quiet study room at the library. You can sit at a desk in the study room and work on homework. Students often sit in the study room in the afternoon. There are lamps on every desk and the room is very calm.
At the end of our visit, we each chose one book to borrow. The librarian stamped our cards at the front desk. I put my book carefully in my bag. She told us we could keep it for three weeks.
On the walk back to school, our teacher asked what we liked best. I said I loved the quiet feeling in the room. Some classmates liked the computers at the desk. Others preferred sitting in the cozy chairs in the reading area.
I want to go back to the library on Saturday morning. There are many more books I want to read. I will sit in my favorite chair at the window and stay for a whole hour.
