I looked everywhere in the house. She was not in the kitchen under the table. She was not on the chair in my room. She was not in the bathroom, and she was not under the coat rack in the hallway.
My mother and I went outside to look for her. We called her name in the garden. We looked under the bushes at the side of the house. We checked behind the shed at the back of the garden.
I asked our neighbor Mrs. Brown if she had seen Biscuit. She said she had seen a small orange cat sitting on the wall at the end of the lane at noon. I ran to the lane immediately.
There was no cat on the wall when I arrived. But I heard a soft sound from the garden on the other side. I knocked at the gate. Mrs. Chen opened it. She said a cat had come in at her back gate and was sleeping under the bench in her garden.
I went in and found Biscuit under the bench on the grass. She was curled up in a warm spot in the sun. She was completely calm. I picked her up and carried her home.
We walked home along the lane and through the garden gate. I put Biscuit on the sofa in the living room, in her usual spot. She stretched and went back to sleep.
We put a note in the local shop on Main Street asking neighbors to call us if they saw her outside. I also put a tag on her collar with our address on it.
Biscuit has not gone missing again. She still sleeps on the sofa in the living room every afternoon. She is happy at home, and so are we.
