Dear Max,

I heard about your school trip next week. I am so happy for you. Our class did the same trip two years ago. Let me give you some advice from my experience.

Pack your bag the night before. Do not leave it until morning. Lay all your things on your bed first. Check the list your teacher gave you. Add each item to your bag as you check it. Put the heavy things at the bottom and light things on top.

Bring a water bottle. Fill it before you leave home. Drink from it during the walk. Do not wait until you feel very thirsty. Small sips every twenty minutes are better than one big drink at the end.

Wear comfortable shoes. Do not wear new shoes on a long walk. Your feet will hurt by midday. Choose shoes you have worn before. Put on two pairs of socks if the weather is cold. This helps prevent blisters.

Listen to your guide carefully on the trail. Do not wander off the path. Stay with your group. If you fall behind, call out to the person in front. Do not panic if you fall a little behind just walk faster for a moment and catch up.

Take a notebook and a pencil. Write down interesting things you see. Draw a quick sketch if something catches your attention. Do not rely only on photos. Writing helps you remember more.

Eat your lunch at the right time. Do not eat all your food in the morning. Save something for the afternoon. Share with a friend if they forget their snack. Our teacher always says look after each other.

Come back with good stories for our class. Write to me after and tell me everything. Enjoy every moment of the trail and the fresh air.

Your friend,
Lena
