Come and say hello to your neighbors. You can knock on the door next door in the morning. Do not visit too late in the evening. Bring a small gift if you like — there is a bakery two streets away that has good bread. Introduce yourself at the door. Say your name and tell them where you moved from.
There is a small park at the end of our street. It has benches, trees, and a playground for children. You can take a walk there in the morning. Look at the community board near the park gate. Our street events and notices are posted there. Read them when you have a moment.
There is a recycling bin at the corner of the street. Use it for paper, glass, and plastic. Put your rubbish out on Thursday evening. Do not leave your bags on the pavement for more than one day. Our street stays clean when everyone follows the same routine.
You can find a supermarket on the next street. It is open from eight in the morning to eight in the evening. Ask me if you cannot find something in the shop — I go there every two days. Our local fruit seller is on the corner. He sells fresh vegetables and fruit. Try his tomatoes. They are very good.
Our neighbors have a cat named Biscuit. It is an orange cat with white paws. Do not be alarmed if it comes to your door. It is friendly and curious. You can stroke it if you like. Do not feed it — it has its own diet and its owner is careful about its food.
There is a community center on Park Road. Come along on Tuesday evenings if you want to meet people. There are language classes, a book club, and a chess group. You can join any of them for free. Ask at the front desk for the schedule.
Our street has good bus connections. Take the number twelve bus from the stop at the corner. Get off at Market Square for the town center. Do not worry if you miss the bus — the next one comes in fifteen minutes. Keep your bus card in your pocket for easy access.
