Our teacher introduced Lily to the class. She asked us to help Lily find her way around the building. I volunteered to show her around.
I took Lily on a short tour after the morning bell. I showed her the library on the second floor and the canteen in the basement. I pointed to the art room at the end of the corridor on the right. She wrote the directions in a small notebook.
At break time, Lily sat on a bench in the yard. I went over and asked if she wanted to join our group. She smiled and said yes. We walked to the fountain near the main building and talked for a while.
She told me about her old school. It was in a big city with many students. She said the classrooms were on three floors and the sports hall was in a separate building next door.
In the afternoon, Lily found the canteen by herself. She put her tray on the counter and chose her meal. She sat at the table near the window where our group usually eats. We were glad she found us.
After school, her mother waited at the gate. Lily waved to us before she left. She had a small smile now, not the nervous look from the morning.
The next day, Lily knew where the library was. She put her things in the locker in the hallway and sat at her desk before the bell rang.
By the end of the week, Lily was part of our group. She saved a spot for me at the lunch table every day. I think she feels at home in our school now.
