I was standing near the information board when the loudspeaker announced a delay. People were reading the screen, but the new time did not appear at first. Did the staff know what happened? Nobody answered my question clearly.
While I was buying tea, Leo sent a message from the train. He was sitting in a carriage without air conditioning because the system was not working. I was walking back to the bench when I saw an old friend from school.
She was carrying a heavy bag while she looked for Platform Six. I was helping her with the bag when Leo called again. He was passing through a tunnel, and the signal was not strong.
At half past three the crowd was growing near the gate. I was checking my watch every few minutes. Were the passengers angry? Some were angry, but most were just tired.
When the train finally arrived, the doors opened slowly. Leo was waving from a window while other people were getting off. I was smiling because I had not seen him for two years.
He was walking quickly when he reached the platform. His shirt was wet because he was not sitting near a working fan. Did he bring the books he promised? Yes, he brought two books in a blue bag.
We were talking about his journey while we walked to the exit. Leo was explaining that the train stopped twice between cities. The driver was not driving fast because there was work on the track last week.
Outside the station it was raining lightly. We were sharing an umbrella when a taxi stopped near the curb. The driver was asking where we wanted to go, but Leo did not hear him at first.
We were driving through the city while the streets were shining with rain. I was telling Leo about my new job when he was looking out of the window. He was not listening carefully because the view was new to him.
At home my mother was cooking soup in the kitchen. She was setting the table when we came through the door. Were we hungry after the long wait? Yes, we were very hungry.
We were eating and laughing while Leo described the hot carriage. My father was asking questions about the delay, but Leo did not know every detail. The railway company was not sending clear updates to the passengers.
After dinner we were sitting in the living room and watching the rain. Leo was reading one of his books when I was writing emails at the desk. I was not working long because I wanted to talk with him.
Last Thursday was slow at the station, but the evening felt warm at home. I was waiting, he was travelling, and we were finally together before midnight. I did not mind the delay when we were talking over soup.

Pasado simple y continuo juntos
Pasado simple (waited, arrived) — eventos completados. Pasado continuo (was waiting) — acciones en curso o fondo. Juntos muestran: una cosa pas mientras otra estaba en progreso.
Este es el ncleo del narrative del artculo — la habilidad de combinar dos tiempos.

Pasado continuo + when + pasado simple. "I was helping her when Leo called" — estaba ayudndola, y entonces llam Leo. La accin en curso (was helping) es interrumpida por una corta (called).
