I am Sara. Last month our class performed a short play in the school hall. We practiced for three weeks, but one moment changed everything on opening night.

The audience was arriving when we were putting on costumes backstage. Ms Cole was helping with buttons while Jake was searching for his hat. Were we nervous? Yes, we were nervous, but we were also excited.

While the parents were finding seats, the lights were getting brighter on stage. I was standing behind the curtain when I heard my name in the first scene. Did I remember every line? I thought I did, but my hands were shaking.

The music started and the curtain opened slowly. Emma was reading the opening lines when a microphone made a sharp noise. The sound was not clear, and the teacher was fixing a cable near the wall.

We were acting the second scene when the lights went out suddenly. The hall was dark for ten seconds, and someone was laughing nervously in the front row. Was anyone afraid? A few children were afraid, but the teachers were calm.

When the lights returned, we were continuing the story from the same place. Tom was dancing on stage while the rest of us were waiting for our cue. He did not miss a step even though the surprise was big.

During the quiet scene I was sitting on a wooden box and looking at the floor. Leo was whispering his lines while the audience was watching closely. I was not whispering because my part needed a clear voice.

The funniest moment came near the end. Anna was carrying a tray of paper cups when she tripped on a cable. The cups were falling while she was trying to stay in character. She did not break the scene, and people were clapping because the moment felt real.

After the final song we were bowing together on stage. Parents were taking photos while teachers were smiling at the back wall. Was the play perfect? It was not perfect, but it was full of life.

Backstage we were hugging and talking about the blackout. Jake was saying he lost his hat during the dark seconds. Ms Cole was laughing because she found it under a chair when the lights were off.

We were cleaning the hall when the last family left through the main door. I was stacking chairs while Tom was sweeping near the stage. We were not leaving until everything looked tidy again.

On the bus home I was thinking about the microphone and the lights. My friend was sleeping beside me because the evening was long. I was not sleeping because my mind was replaying every scene.

The next day students were talking about the play in the corridor. They were asking if we planned the blackout for drama. We were explaining that it was not planned at all.

Last month showed us that live theatre is never completely predictable. We were practicing, we were performing, and we were laughing when something went wrong.

Pasado Continuo + when + Pasado Simple

The audience was arriving when we were putting on costumes

Pasado Continuo + when + Pasado Simple

Cuando dos acciones ocurrieron en el pasado, un evento más corto (pasado simple) interrumpe uno más largo (pasado continuo): "The audience WAS ARRIVING (larga) when we WERE PUTTING ON (larga)". El orden puede variar.

Estructura fundamental para enlazar eventos pasados. Muy común en narrativas.
