I am Omar. Last Tuesday I was walking home from college when the sky changed fast. The morning was sunny, but clouds were arriving from the west.

I was carrying my bag and thinking about a test when cold drops hit my face. I was looking for my umbrella when the wind grew stronger. People were running to bus stops along the street.

While I was walking past the bakery, the shop owner was closing the awning. A cyclist was riding fast when his hat flew off. Two students were laughing under a tree when thunder sounded far away.

I was opening my umbrella when a gust turned it inside out. I was standing near a wall and fixing the metal ribs. Water was running along the pavement while cars were splashing through puddles.

A friend, Priya, was waiting at the corner when she saw me. She was holding a spare umbrella and waving. We were walking together while the rain was falling harder.

While we were crossing the park, children were playing under a big oak tree. Their teacher was calling them back to school when the bell rang. We were watching them run while we were trying to stay dry.

Priya was telling me about her project when we heard a loud crack. A branch was falling near the path, and we jumped back. Nobody was hurt, but we were shaking for a minute.

We were walking faster when Priya's phone rang. Her mom was asking where she was. Priya was explaining that she was coming home with a friend from class.

While Priya was talking, I was checking the time on my watch. I was realizing I was late for dinner. My dad was probably cooking pasta and wondering about me.

We were near my street when the rain stopped suddenly. The sun was coming out while steam was rising from the wet road. I was saying goodbye to Priya when my neighbor Mrs Cole opened her door.

Mrs Cole was holding towels and invited us inside for tea. We were drinking hot tea in her hallway while our shoes were drying. She was telling stories about storms she saw years ago.

I was walking the last block alone when Mom opened our front door. She was smiling and holding a dry towel. Dad was setting the table while pasta was waiting on the stove.

That Tuesday taught me to watch the sky on long walks home. I was walking, the rain was starting, and friends were helping along the way. When I arrived, my family was waiting, and the house felt warm and dry again.
