Hi Emma,
I wanted to tell you about the concert at the Riverside Hall last night. You were working late, so you could not come, but I think you would have loved the music.
I was arriving early because I bought a ticket two weeks ago online. People were already waiting in line when the doors opened at seven. The staff were checking bags slowly, and one woman was asking about wheelchair access near the front row.
While the orchestra was tuning their instruments, I was finding my seat near the middle. The hall was filling quickly, and the lights were getting softer. Did the audience stay quiet? They were not completely quiet at first, but they were listening carefully after the conductor walked on stage.
The first piece was long and calm. I was watching the violin section when the melody became louder. A child was whispering somewhere behind me, but the parents were not speaking during the slow part.
During the break I was buying water at the bar. You were sending me messages about your office project while I was reading them between sips. I was laughing because your team was still in a meeting at nine o'clock.
The second half was more energetic. The drummer was playing fast rhythms while the strings were moving in waves. I was not expecting the final song because it was not on the printed program.
When the music ended, everyone was standing and clapping for five minutes. The conductor was bowing twice while musicians were leaving the stage. Were people happy? Yes, the whole hall felt alive.
After the concert I was walking home along the river. The city was quiet, and I was thinking about the last melody. I was not tired because the music gave me energy.
I was saving a program for you on my desk this morning. Maybe we can listen to the same composer online this weekend when you are not working. You were asking about live music last month, and this concert was a perfect answer.
Let me know when you are free. I was hoping we could repeat the experience together next month if the band returns to our town.
Best,
Lucas
