I am Emma. On Monday our head teacher Ms Cole read the new school rules in the hall. She said every student must follow them from the first day of term. We must wear the school uniform on all weekdays. We must not wear trainers in the classroom.

Students must arrive before eight thirty in the morning. Late pupils must sign a book at the office. Parents must call the school if a child will be absent. We have to show our student card at the gate every day.

In class we must listen when the teacher speaks. We must not use mobile phones during lessons. We should put phones in our bags before the bell rings. The school says we should respect other students and staff at all times.

At lunch we must eat in the canteen or the outdoor area. We must not bring glass bottles into the building. We have to return trays and cups to the counter after we finish. The kitchen staff said we should wash our hands before every meal.

In the library we must work quietly. We must not eat or drink near the books. We have to borrow books with our library card. Ms Cole said we should return books on time so others can read them.

For sports lessons we must wear proper shoes on the field. We must not run in the corridors after wet weather. We have to change in the locker rooms before PE class. The coach said we should bring a water bottle on hot days.

On school trips we must stay with our group. We must not leave the museum or park without a teacher. We have to follow the guide and listen to instructions. Parents should read the trip letter and sign the form before Friday.

In exams we must sit in our assigned seats. We must not talk when papers are on the desk. We have to write with a blue or black pen only. The exam officer said we should check our name on every page.

After school we must leave the building by four thirty unless we join a club. Club members have to register with the teacher at the door. We should tell our parents which club we attend each week. Ms Cole said good habits should start early in the year.

These rules feel strict, but they keep our school safe and calm. We must follow them every day. We should ask teachers if we are not sure about a rule. I think we have to practice the new habits until they feel normal.
