I am Jake. I am nineteen and I share a flat with my friend Marco. On Monday I checked my bank app and saw I did not have much money left after rent. Marco asked if I needed any help with groceries this week.

I said I had some rice and some pasta at home, but not many fresh vegetables. He offered some tomatoes from the market and said I could pay him some coins later. I thanked him because I did not want any big loans from friends.

We wrote a simple budget on a note. Marco asked if I spent any money on games last weekend. I admitted I bought some tickets online and that choice left not much cash for food. He said some planning would help me avoid any surprises.

At the shop we looked for some cheap meals. I asked if they had any discounts on bread today. The clerk pointed to some loaves near the back and said many students bought them after six o'clock. We took some bread and some eggs.

Marco asked if I wanted any coffee from the café next door. I said not today because coffee cost too much for my wallet this week. He understood and said we could drink some tea at home with any milk we still had.

Back in the flat I cooked some eggs with some rice. Marco asked if I had any salt or pepper. I found some spices in a small jar and said we did not need any new bottles yet. The meal was simple but it filled us with enough energy for study.

On Tuesday my sister called and asked if I needed any bus tickets. She said she had some extra passes from her job. I said that would help because I did not have any cash for transport until Friday. She promised to send some codes by message.

At the library I asked a classmate if he had any notes from the lecture I missed. He shared some pages and said many students missed that class because of the train delay. I copied some lines and felt grateful for any small help.

Marco and I talked about free activities. He asked if there were any films in the park this month. I read a poster and said some free shows started on Thursday. We planned to bring some water and some sandwiches from home.

On Wednesday I avoided any online shopping. Marco laughed and said some habits were hard to change. I agreed and said I wanted some savings by the end of the month, not much, but enough for any emergency ticket home.

By Friday my sister sent some bus codes and I saved some time walking to campus. Marco said I handled a tight week well. I said some support from friends mattered more than any expensive treat.

That week taught me that when I do not have much money, some clear lists and some honest questions
