We walked past stalls with bright apples and pears. Ana picked some oranges and asked if the farmer had any mangoes today. He said some mangoes arrived early but not many boxes remained. She chose two and put some bananas in her cloth bag.
At the cheese stall Ana asked if they sold any small portions. The vendor wrapped some goat cheese and said many customers preferred lighter types now. Ana said she would buy some cheese for guests but not much for daily meals.
I looked for some herbs for soup at home. A woman asked if I wanted any mint bundles. I said some mint would be nice and I also took some coriander because Marco liked some spice in his rice.
Near the bread table a boy asked his mother if they had any gluten-free rolls. She found some rolls and said some brands cost more than any regular loaf. They bought some anyway because he could not eat much wheat.
Ana asked if I had any reusable bags left. I gave her some bags from my backpack and said many stalls now charged for plastic. She thanked me and said some small habits helped the market stay cleaner.
We stopped for some tea at a corner cart. The seller asked if we wanted any honey in the cup. Ana said some honey was fine but not too much because she watched her sugar. I said I did not need any sweetener today.
While we drank, Ana told me about her new flat. She said she did not have much furniture yet but she found some chairs online. I asked if she needed any help carrying boxes on Saturday. She said some friends already offered help and many hands would make the job easy.
Before we left Ana checked her list again. She asked if she forgot any vegetables. I said she had some carrots and some peppers but not many potatoes. She added some potatoes and said some stew would warm the first nights in the new kitchen.
At the checkout Ana paid with a card and asked if they accepted any student discounts. The cashier said some stalls gave small reductions on weekdays. Ana saved some coins and smiled because every bit helped when rent took much of her salary.
Walking home Ana said the market gave some colour to a busy week. I agreed and said some fresh fruit tasted better than any snack from a vending machine. She laughed and said she would share some oranges with Marco when she visited our flat.
That market trip showed how some careful choices — some fruit, not much cheese, any small portions — can keep many meals healthy without spending much money on things we do not need.
