We are going to pack room by room during the next two weekends. Mia says we should label every box because the hallway in the new building is narrower than ours today. I think we will need some strong tape and some markers before we start.
Yesterday we visited the new flat again. The landlord said we must finish painting any small marks on the walls before we receive the keys. He will send some instructions by email, and we should reply if we have any questions about the rules.
In the bedroom we will sort clothes first. Mia has many summer dresses but not much space for coats. I said we should donate some old shirts because our new wardrobe will be smaller than the one we use now.
The kitchen will take more time than the bedroom. We have many mugs but the new shelves will hold fewer items. Mia is going to keep some pans and sell any duplicates online. I must remember that the new stove will be lower than our current one.
We called a moving company on Tuesday. They said we should book early because many families move in spring. The price will be higher than last year, but we must hire help for the heavy sofa. They will bring some blankets to protect the furniture.
Our friend Tom offered some boxes from his office move. He said we can take any clean ones from his garage this weekend. We will drive there on Saturday if the weather will stay dry.
Mia wrote a list of tasks for April. We must notify the bank and the internet provider. She said we should change our address before any bills will arrive at the old flat. I will call the energy company tomorrow because their office closes earlier than the post desk.
At work my manager said I should take one day off for the move. Colleagues promised some help with packing books. I told them we will order some pizza if they will stay until evening. Many hands will make the day easier than any plan on paper alone.
We still worry about noise in the new street. The agent said traffic will be quieter than on our current road, but some buses will pass early in the morning. We must sleep with the windows closed on weekdays until we will get used to the sound.
By May we hope the flat will feel like home. We will unpack some photos first because walls without pictures look colder than rooms with colour. Mia says we should invite some neighbours for tea once we will finish the basic setup.
Moving is never simple, yet some boxes, some help from friends, and some clear lists will make our next chapter smoother than we feared.
