Patients often call at nine in the morning to change appointments on short notice. On Monday we schedule follow-up visits at ten or at eleven before lunch. In the winter months more people book slots at three when daylight ends early.

At Easter the clinic closes on Good Friday and on Easter Monday for public holiday rules. Emergency cover still answers phones at nine on those days for serious problems. In April after holidays appointment demand rises at four on Tuesday afternoons.
On my birthday in June colleagues bring cake at three during a short break at the nurses station. We laugh at four and return to patients at four fifteen without delay. In June evenings I leave at six thirty and walk home at seven through quiet streets.
