At the market entrance a volunteer handed us a map and pointed to the covered section near the fountain. Rosa asked him to circle the bread stall because she forgot where it stood last month. He smiled and marked the spot with a blue pen.
We walked slowly between stalls and bought apples, cheese, and honey from local producers. The cheese seller let us taste two samples and told us the mild one sold faster on rainy days. Rosa chose the mild cheese and asked me to pay while she looked for reusable bags.
Near the flower stand an older woman struggled with a heavy basket. Rosa offered to help her carry it to the bench by the tram line. The woman thanked us warmly and said she came every week because the market reminded her of the village where she grew up.
While Rosa talked to the woman, I bought a small jar of honey and asked the vendor to wrap it carefully. He placed it in a box with paper and told me to keep it upright in my bag. I put the box inside my jacket to protect it from the rain.
After shopping we sat in a café on the corner and ordered hot tea. Rosa checked her phone because her friend Amir sent her a message about a concert that evening. She asked me to join her if the rain stopped, but I said I would stay home and cook soup with our market vegetables.
Amir later called Rosa and asked her to meet him at the venue at seven. He said he would save a seat for her near the front because he arrived early when doors opened. Rosa agreed and told him she would bring the scarf he left at her flat on Thursday.
On the way home the bus driver announced a detour because of road work on Hill Street. A passenger asked him to repeat the route and he explained it patiently. Rosa helped a tourist find the stop for the museum by showing a map on her phone.
At home I unpacked the bags and washed the apples in the sink. Our neighbor Mr Ellis knocked and asked us to accept a parcel for him because he would visit his daughter until Sunday. Rosa said yes and placed the box in the hallway where he could see it through the window.
In the evening I made vegetable soup and grilled bread with the cheese we bought. Rosa tasted the soup and told me she liked the herbs I added from the balcony pot. She left for the concert at six forty-five and texted me when she arrived safely.
Before bed Mr Ellis returned and we gave him the parcel.
