Every Thursday at seven in the evening our neighbourhood club meets in the community hall on River Lane. I joined last autumn because I wanted to know people on my street, and the group welcomed me with friendly smiles and hot tea.

Mrs Cole leads the meetings, and she likes planning talks about local history and gardening. Mr Patel brings biscuits on the first week of each month because he enjoys baking for friends. I help him carry boxes from his car when rain falls in the evening.

Do you belong to a club near your home? My neighbour Rosa does not attend every week, but she loves the spring plant swap on Saturdays in the hall garden. She gives me cuttings for my balcony, and I water them carefully because small plants need patience.

At half past seven we sit in a circle, and members share news about repairs, events, and school fairs in the district. Tom from number twelve tells us about a broken street lamp, and Mrs Cole writes his report because the council reads our notes on Monday mornings.

I like listening to older residents because their stories describe the town before new flats appeared near the station. One man spoke about the old cinema on High Street, and he showed us tickets from the nineteen seventies because memory keeps places alive.

Does Tom like public speaking? He does not enjoy long speeches, but he likes short updates when problems affect our road. He asked me to read his note last month, and I helped him because his English feels stronger in writing than in speech.

On some Thursdays we watch short films about recycling, and children join us at eight when homework is finished at home. My niece Eva sits beside me, and she asks questions because she cares about litter in the park near her school.

At nine we tidy chairs, and volunteers lock the hall because the building closes at half past nine on weekdays. I walk home with Rosa when our houses face the same direction, and we talk about books because she loves reading detective novels before sleep.

The club feels useful because neighbours solve small problems together without waiting for distant offices. I do not know everyone yet, but I like the rhythm of Thursday evenings in our quiet hall. Do you know your neighbours well? I am learning their names slowly, and each meeting makes the street feel warmer and safer.
