My cousin Lily turns fourteen on Saturday the twelfth of June, and my aunt asked me to help plan a small surprise at home. We started preparations on Monday because decorations take time, and I like organising events when friends can join the fun.

On Tuesday evening I bought balloons and candles at the shop on Market Street, and I hid them in the garage because Lily must not see them before the party. My uncle picked music she loves, and he saved playlists on his phone for dancing in the living room after cake.

Do you enjoy surprise parties? Lily does not suspect anything yet, but she likes guessing games, so we wrote clues on cards for her to read at four in the afternoon. Her brother Max will read the first clue, and he will guide her to the garden because the weather looks sunny.

At three thirty guests arrive quietly, and we ask them to leave shoes by the door because the floor is newly cleaned. I greet each friend, and I show them where to stand behind the curtain near the kitchen because Lily will enter from the hall.

Aunt Rosa loves baking, and she made a chocolate cake with strawberries on top on Friday morning. She asked me to carry it carefully, and I placed it on the table at four because everyone wanted photos before singing.

Does Max like decorating rooms? He does not enjoy tying ribbons for hours, but he likes hanging lights in the garden when evening comes. He helped me on Friday at six, and we finished before guests arrived because teamwork saved time.

When Lily opened the door at four fifteen, we shouted happy birthday, and she laughed because the surprise worked perfectly. She hugged Aunt Rosa first, and she thanked us all because the room looked bright and full of people she trusts.

We ate cake at half past four, and friends gave small gifts on the sofa near the window. Lily loves drawing, so Eva brought pencils, and Tom brought a sketchbook because he remembered her hobby from school art class.

At six we played music in the garden, and neighbours watched from their fences because the songs were cheerful and loud. Lily danced with Max, and I filmed a short video for grandparents who could not travel on that day.

The party ended at eight, and we cleaned plates together because Aunt Rosa looked tired after a long day. I do not mind washing cups when celebrations feel happy, and Lily told me later that this birthday stayed in her memory for many months.
