I am Elena. I am twenty-six and I work as a nurse in Bristol. Travel has always interested me, and I have visited seven countries so far. I have never visited Asia, but I have already seen much of Europe.
I have been to France three times. I have walked along the Seine in Paris, and I have eaten fresh croissants in small bakeries. I have also visited Lyon, where I have tasted local cheese with friends from university.
Spain has welcomed me twice. I have stayed in Barcelona for a week, and I have learned basic Catalan phrases from a friendly host. I have swum in the Mediterranean and I have watched sunset concerts near the harbour.
In Italy I have explored Rome and Florence. I have stood inside the Colosseum, and I have admired paintings in quiet galleries. I have spoken Italian with shop owners, and they have always smiled at my effort.
I have travelled to Germany only once, but I have remembered Berlin clearly. I have walked through historical streets, and I have listened to street musicians near Brandenburg Gate. I have also tried currywurst, which I have enjoyed more than I expected.
Portugal surprised me last summer. I have never felt so calm as I felt in Lisbon. I have ridden a yellow tram uphill, and I have drunk strong coffee in tiled cafés. I have promised myself that I have not finished with Portugal yet.
The Netherlands was a short trip, yet I have kept vivid memories. I have cycled beside canals in Amsterdam, and I have visited a tulip field outside the city. I have taken hundreds of photos that I have shared with my sister.
Poland was my most recent journey. I have visited Kraków with my cousin Marta, and we have learned about local history together. I have eaten pierogi every evening, and I have returned home with recipes I have copied carefully.
At home in Bristol I have shown my photos to colleagues. Many have asked where I have travelled, and some have suggested countries I have not considered. I have started a list of places I have wanted to see next year.
