Community newsletter: Present Perfect (B1)

Welcome to the October edition of Riverside News. Local groups have shared updates we hope you will read and share with neighbours.

The gardening club has planted winter bulbs in the park. Members met last Saturday, and newcomers have already joined the mailing list. Tools are stored in the shed near the playground.

The youth orchestra has performed at the town hall. Parents recorded clips that have appeared on social media, and the conductor thanked sponsors who have supported instrument repairs this year.

A food bank volunteer wrote that donations increased in September. Several schools organised collections, and businesses have matched employee contributions. Volunteers still need drivers for Thursday deliveries.

The library announced extended hours on Wednesdays. Staff have added children's storytelling sessions, and attendance has grown since the programme started in August.

Road repairs on Bridge Street finished last month, but traffic calming measures have continued on side roads. Councillors answered questions at a meeting residents attended on the fifth.

Sports teams reported mixed results. The women's football club has won three matches this season, while the junior cricket squad lost a close game on Sunday. Coaches praised effort and teamwork regardless of scores.

Environmental volunteers cleaned the riverbank and removed bags of litter. One participant said she has lived nearby for twenty years and has never seen the area look cleaner after a single event.
