Planning an international holiday with close friends requires patience , negotiation , and careful financial budgeting . Having our own vehicle will give us greater freedom to explore remote fishing villages . If the ocean water is warm enough , we will take surfing lessons from local instructors near Sagres . Naturally , unexpected complications can always disrupt travel plans . If airfares rise sharply before payday , we will travel in late September instead of July to avoid high tourist prices . Moreover , if any group member cannot take annual leave , we will shorten the road trip to ten days so everyone can join without risking work obligations .
