Mara wanted a winter , not a long weekend . Her client was in another country , the draft was still open , and the work lived on her laptop . A tourist entry would run out before the project did . She had spent the years of closed borders learning that a shutdown does not care how flexible a person feels . Neither fact is a rule about every hotel and every border . Her file was one country and one winter . She attached the contract , the insurance certificate , and the address of a room she could cancel if the answer was no . In the box that asked what she would do all day , she wrote the name of the project and nothing heroic . Then she sent the client a shorter note than the one she had drafted . She would know Tallinn when Estonia answered . Until then the work stayed on the laptop , and so did she .
