I have to arrive ten minutes early and sign the staff sheet at the desk. I must wear the green apron and my name badge on the left side. I must not eat or drink at the counter where customers pay for books.
Ms Reed said I have to greet every customer with a smile. I should ask if they need help finding a title or author. I must not use my phone when people are waiting in line. Staff have to stay polite even on busy mornings.
In the morning I have to check the delivery boxes in the back room. I must scan new books and place them on the correct shelf. Heavy boxes must not block the fire exit. I should label piles clearly so other staff can shelve them fast.
At the till I have to handle cash and card payments carefully. I must count change twice before I hand it to the customer. I must not leave the register open when I walk away. The shop rules say we should offer a receipt with every sale.
During quiet hours Ms Reed said I should dust the display tables near the window. I have to straighten books that fall forward on the shelves. Posters must not cover the emergency exit sign. We must keep the aisle wide enough for wheelchairs.
For returns I have to check the receipt and the book condition. I must not accept damaged copies without manager approval. Customers should bring items within fourteen days. The policy says staff have to explain rules calmly if someone is unhappy.
At lunch I have to take my break in the small staff room. I must not leave the shop floor without telling a colleague. I should wash my hands before I return to the till. Ms Reed said we have to cover each other's breaks on Saturdays.
Near closing time I have to help count the cash in the drawer. I must lock the door at six exactly. I must not forget to switch off the display lights. Every worker has to sign out on the sheet before they leave.
Ms Reed gave me advice for the first month. I should write down titles customers ask for that we do not stock. I must ask questions when I am not sure about a rule. I have to learn the layout of fiction, travel, and children's sections.
My first day felt long but clear because the rules were simple. I have to follow them every shift. I should practice the till until payments feel easy. Good workers must respect customers and teammates every hour.
