I am Kai. My cousin Ava visits our town every summer. Ava is taller than me by six centimetres, and her hair is longer than mine, but I am faster than her on the school track.
Last July we joined a community sports day in the park. Ava said the morning air felt cooler than the air in her city. I said our grass field was softer than the hard court near her apartment.
We registered for different races. Ava chose the long jump because her legs are stronger than mine for jumping. I chose the hundred-metre race because my starts are quicker than hers. Our aunt said Ava is the tallest girl in our family photo.
Before the races we watched younger children play. Their races looked shorter than ours, and their cheers were louder than the music from the speaker. Ava laughed and said the small kids were braver than she was at their age.
When the long jump began, Ava jumped farther than most girls in her group. One athlete jumped farther than Ava by a few centimetres. Ava smiled and said second place is still better than last year for her.
My race started ten minutes later. I ran faster than the boy in lane four, and I finished sooner than I expected. Ava shouted that my sprint was quicker than her brother's run last summer. I felt prouder than after any school practice.
At lunch we shared sandwiches under a tree. Ava's sandwich was bigger than mine because she added extra cheese. My drink was colder than hers since I kept the bottle in the shade. We agreed the lemonade from the stall was sweeter than the water from home.
In the afternoon we tried a team relay. Our team was slower than the team from the east side, but we were more united than the group that argued near the start line. Ava said teamwork is more important than winning every medal.
A photographer took pictures near the podium. Ava looked happier than she did before the long jump. I looked more tired than Ava, but also more relaxed after the final whistle.
On the bus home Ava said my town is friendlier than her neighbourhood during festivals. I said her city library is bigger than ours, and her summer courses are more interesting than our local classes. We both agreed that visiting each other is more fun than reading about sports online.
