My current role is more technical than it was in January. I handle more client calls than before, and the reports are more detailed than the summaries I wrote in spring. I must improve my presentation skills because senior meetings are more frequent than monthly updates.
The company will open a smaller office closer to my home next summer. The commute will be shorter than my daily ride now, and the new desk area looks brighter than our basement floor. I should visit the space before I assume it is quieter than the main building.
My manager said I will lead a junior colleague on one project. Teaching is more challenging than working alone, yet it is more rewarding when progress is visible. I have to plan weekly check-ins that are more structured than the casual chats we used to enjoy.
At home my partner Leila started evening classes. Her schedule is busier than mine on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We must cook simpler meals on those nights, and we should protect one evening that is more restful than the others. Leila thinks next year will be harder than this one, but also more meaningful if we support each other.
We compared apartments near the future office. One flat is larger than our current room, but the rent is higher than we want to pay. Another place is smaller than our kitchen now, yet the neighbourhood is friendlier than the noisy street outside our window.
I will apply for a design course in March. The online option is more flexible than the classroom course downtown, but the classroom group is more motivating than silent videos at night. I must decide before enrollment closes, and I should ask colleagues which format helped them more than self-study alone.
Will next year feel overwhelming? Probably at times. Will it also feel more satisfying than repeating the same tasks without growth? I hope so. My manager believes consistent effort is more important than perfect plans on paper.
Before the holiday break I wrote three priorities on one card. Health is more important than overtime. Learning is more valuable than comfort when skills feel outdated. Family time is more steadying than any promotion title on an email signature.
Looking forward, I see a year that is busier than the last one, yet possibly richer in skills and relationships. Comparisons help me choose where to invest energy, and clear goals will matter more than quick wins when January arrives again.
