Ms Reed asked me to close the door quietly when the other students left. She thanked us for staying and told us the project would be fun but needed careful planning. We sat in the front row with our notebooks open.
First she asked Tom to describe his idea about local history. Tom spoke clearly and said he would interview older neighbours near his street. Ms Reed liked the plan and told him to write three sample questions before Friday.
Then she turned to Priya and asked her to share her topic about school meals. Priya explained how the cafeteria changed menus this year. Ms Reed asked her to bring one menu from home so we could compare prices and choices together.
Ms Reed looked at Lily and asked her to coordinate the group calendar. Lily agreed and said she would create a shared document for all of us by Wednesday evening. Ms Reed told her to include deadlines for drafts and peer review sessions.
Finally Ms Reed asked me to contact the librarian about reference books. I said I would visit the library on Thursday and ask the staff to reserve two titles she wrote on the board. She gave me a note with the exact call numbers.
Before we left, Ms Reed reminded us to support each other during busy weeks. She told us not to hesitate if we needed extra time for one section. Tom offered to help Priya with recording equipment because he borrowed a small microphone from his cousin last month.
Outside the classroom Priya asked me to walk with her to the bus stop. She wanted to discuss interview questions for her cafeteria article. I suggested two polite openings and she wrote them down in her phone.
At the bus stop we met Jake from our year. He asked us what Ms Reed wanted after class. We told him about the project and he said he wished she had invited him too. Priya promised she would mention his name if the group needed a photographer.
That evening Ms Reed emailed me a link to a sample article from last year. She asked me to read it and share it with the team before our first meeting on Monday. I forwarded the link to Tom, Priya, and Lily with a short summary.
On Monday Lily sent us a calendar and asked everyone to confirm the dates. Tom replied quickly and told her he could meet on Tuesday after football practice. Priya said Wednesday suited her better because she worked at the shop until six.
During our first group session Tom interviewed me about my role as coordinator with the library. I explained the books I reserved and showed him the librarian's helpful note. Priya recorded a short test clip and asked us to listen for background noise near the cafeteria.
