The timetable promised a bus at seven fifteen, yet the street has stayed empty longer than usual. Commuters have checked phones, sighed, and glanced at watches while rain has dotted the pavement.

I have waited for twenty minutes without shelter beyond a thin awning. A nurse beside me has waited for fifteen minutes because her shift starts at half past seven. She has worried aloud that traffic has delayed every route since roadworks began last Monday.

An elderly man has stood quietly for ten minutes with a folded newspaper. He has visited the same clinic every week for three years, and delays have rarely upset him until today.

Two students have complained that they have waited for half an hour already. Their exam has started at eight, and they have calculated whether walking might arrive faster since the bus has not appeared.

The driver has apologised when the bus has finally arrived. He has explained that a breakdown earlier on the line has caused knock-on delays since six o'clock. Passengers have boarded without further argument.

During the journey a conductor has announced that repairs on Bridge Road have continued for six weeks. Diversions have added minutes to every trip since September, and the council has promised completion since early October without exact dates.

Inside the bus conversations have turned to patience. One woman has commuted this route for twelve years, and she has adapted schedules since her children started school. Flexibility has become habit during long periods of construction.

I have arrived at work twenty-five minutes late, yet my manager has understood because staff have experienced similar delays for days. Teams have shared updates in a chat group since the roadworks started.

Short waits have felt long when appointments have approached. For minutes and for weeks transport problems have tested routines. Present perfect with for and since has described both today's queue and the wider disruption clearly.
